What actually is a wedding breakfast?

It’s got nothing to do with eggs and toast. It’s the meal you share with your guests straight after the ceremony, whatever time of day that happens to be. One tradition says the name comes from couples fasting before their vows, so the first meal after was literally breaking that fast. We serve yours in Osborne’s Restaurant, with Robin Hood’s Bay as the backdrop.

Where is the wedding breakfast held?

In Osborne’s Restaurant, which carries the same sea view straight through from your Sea View Garden ceremony outside. You’ll move from vows to your seats without needing directions.

What's included in the menu?

You’ve got three ways to do it: a classic three course wedding breakfast, a Luxury Yorkshire Themed Buffet, or something more playful, Fish & Chips followed by a Victoria Ice Cream Sundae or Afternoon Tea. All three are built around seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and our chefs will work with you on dietary requirements so nobody’s stuck picking at a side salad while everyone else eats properly.

Can we choose our own menu, and do we get to taste it first?

Yes, and you’ll taste it before you commit to anything. Every couple gets a complimentary menu tasting, and some packages include an extended tasting for a few extra guests too, handy if someone’s parents have strong opinions about gravy.

Is drink included, or is that separate?

Wine comes with the meal as standard: house red or white, with some packages stepping this up to half a bottle per guest or a premium wine chosen for the table. Add a post ceremony drink of Bucks Fizz, Prosecco or Champagne, then a toast to match, sparkling wine, Prosecco, or a cocktail built around you. By the evening there are canapés and a buffet too, so nobody’s relying on wedding cake to see them through to midnight.

How long does the wedding breakfast usually run?

Usually around 2 hours, though this depends on your package, your menu and your guest numbers. Your Wedding Coordinator will map out the timings with you once those choices are made, so you’ll have a running order well before the day itself.

When do the speeches happen?

There’s no fixed rule. Some couples put them between courses, others save them all for after dessert. Tell your Wedding Coordinator what you’ve got in mind and they’ll build the day around it, not the other way round.

How many guests can Hotel Victoria seat for the wedding breakfast?

Up to 80, depending on your catering choices. Want something smaller and more private? The Loxley Room seats up to 30, with all the character of a proper Yorkshire pub built in. Either way, your Wedding Coordinator will match the room to your numbers, not the other way round.
