Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Overnight guests park free in our own car park at the top of Robin Hood’s Bay, first come, first served, with no registration needed. If it’s full when you arrive there’s a pay-and-display opposite the hotel and a larger car park about 200 metres away, and reception will fetch your bags on the electric buggy.

No, we’re in Robin Hood’s Bay, six miles south of Whitby on the same stretch of coast. It’s typically a 15-minute drive on the A171 and B1447, and the X93 bus links the village with Whitby and Scarborough and stops close to the hotel. Most guests find that it’s close enough to spend the day in Whitby and park for nothing.

It depends whether you’re arriving by car. Most of the village’s cottages are down in the old town, where cars can’t go, so you’ll carry bags down the bank and back up again. We sit at the top of the village with free parking and sea views, so guests booking a hotel room with us get to enjoy fantastic coastal views, easy parking, and Rosette star dining with a restaurant and a pub on site, so there’s no walk back up the hill after dinner.

The Deluxe Sea View Rooms and Superior Sea View Rooms in the main hotel face the bay and the North Sea, and the three Superior hotel rooms add a private balcony, one with a four-poster bed. The Superior Suite in The Captain’s Quarters has sea and moorland views from the top floor.

Yes, in The Captain’s Quarters, the two Victorian houses next to the hotel. Small to medium, well-behaved dogs are welcome in those bedrooms, in the Sea View Garden and in The Loxley Pub, which has its own doggy menu. They aren’t allowed in the main hotel bedrooms or in Osborne’s Restaurant.

Yes. Every room can be booked on a bed and breakfast basis, with breakfast cooked to order in the orangery overlooking the bay between 8am and 10am. If you’d rather have dinner included as well, our offers and breaks page has the current dinner, bed and breakfast packages.

Easy or hard, depending on the route. The Cinder Track, the old Scarborough-to-Whitby railway line, runs behind the hotel and is flat and traffic-free for about six miles, so it suits most walkers and cyclists. The Cleveland Way along the cliff tops is more dramatic and rather more up and down. The X93 bus stops near the hotel if you’d rather ride back.

Yes. Two fully accessible hotel rooms are on the ground floor of The Captain’s Quarters, each with a ramped entrance, a grab-railed bathroom with shower seat and a parking space by the door. Robin Hood’s Bay itself is steep, so these are the rooms to book if the hill would be a problem. Details are on our accessible rooms page.
