An iconic Victorian gem with stunning coastal views

The Hotel Victoria promises a memorable and rejuvenating escape on the North Yorkshire Coast.

Built in 1897, the hotel has a rich maritime history playing host to many a Sea Captain.

Recently refurbished, the hotel offers 30 elegantly decorated hotel rooms, Osborne’s Restaurant & Lounge Bar, The Loxley, our traditional Yorkshire pub and a separate Garden Bar as well as stunning alfresco dining areas with unrivalled sea views. For our overnight guests, we also offer complimentary onsite car parking (subject to availability). Please note that we offer doggy friendly rooms within the Captain’s Quarters only and not in the main hotel.

Robin Hood's Bay

We are situated in the picture perfect, historic fishing Village of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Meander through its narrow, twisting cobbled streets and alleyways, imagine the sailors and fishermen, smugglers and press gangs that walked these streets hundreds of years ago. Today it is a vibrant village, with a wide range of artisan shops and eateries.

North York Moors National Park

Explore the treasures of the North York Moors National Park with places such as Whitby, Scarborough, Runswick Bay and Staithes in easy reach along the spectacular coastline. Adventure seekers can take advantage of the many walking and cycling trails while history enthusiasts can explore the rich maritime heritage of the area.

Coast to Coast

The Victoria has easy access to the many stunning coastal and country walks including the Cleveland Way and the world-famous Coast to Coast Walk. The Coast to Coast Walk is a famous British hike pioneered by Alfred Wainwright that steers across the UK’s landscape from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay. You will also find over 150 miles of cycle network including the line of the former Scarborough to Whitby railway (the ‘Cinder Track’) all on our doorstep.

Hotel Victoria is situated in a prime position overlooking the historic and picturesque village of Robin Hood’s Bay and we are now offering
Guests a VIP experience with the comfort of being chauffer driven down to the bottom of the village and back up in our stylish Monaco Electric Vehicle.

Wedding couples can be driven in style to many of the iconic picture-perfect settings around the village.

History of the Hotel Victoria

The Victoria was purpose built as a hotel in 1897. In 2017 it featured in the Oscar-winning period movie, Phantom Thread, starring Sir Daniel Day Lewis.

First recorded reference to Robin Hood’s Bay.

18th Century

Robin Hood’s Bay was reportedly the busiest smuggling community on the Yorkshire coast.

Hotel Victoria was built by a local Sea Captain and is believed to have mainly hosted Sea Captains and higher ranking officers.

1994

In December 1994 Robin Hood’s Bay Victorian Weekend was launched. Hotel Victoria always enters into the spirit of this wonderful festive event.

2017

In 2017 Hotel Victoria became centre stage for Oscar Winning Actor Daniel Day Lewis in his reportedly final movie Phantom Thread. The iconic breakfast scene from the movie was shot in what is now Osborne’s Lounge and many of our staff had the privilege of being extras.

2023

Hotel Victoria was acquired by Businessman Andrew Long and added to The Loxley Collection. The hotel has since undergone a comprehensive but sensitive refurbishment programme.
