You roll off a ferry, get in the car, and five days later you roll onto another one. In between: North Sea coastline, two great cathedral cities, a cobbled fishing village and some proper driving country.
We call it the Coast & Cathedral Road Trip.
It’s become a favourite with travellers arriving into England by ferry, especially guests crossing from mainland Europe through Newcastle or heading home via Hull. The route links two of the North’s busiest ports with the Yorkshire coast and the cathedrals at York and Lincoln.
It happens to pass right through the front doors of two sister hotels: Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay and The White Hart Hotel in Lincoln. Both are part of The Loxley Collection, so this isn’t two separate suggestions stitched together. It’s one route with two natural anchor stays already built in.
For tour operators, travel agents and anyone putting together a fixed or tailor made England itinerary for clients arriving by ferry, that’s a useful thing to have. Here’s how the five days work, and why both hotels are worth building the trip around.

Five days covers the whole route comfortably. It extends easily to 7 or 8 days with an extra night in York, or longer stays at either Loxley Collection hotel for clients wanting to explore Whitby, Scarborough and the North York Moors, or Lincoln’s Cathedral Quarter, in more depth.
Also This October: The Loxley Collection 500
If your clients are classic car owners, there’s a reason to look at this route beyond the usual FIT or coach booking. This October, The Loxley Collection is running its first Loxley Collection 500 UK Roman Road Classic Vehicle Tour, in association with Classic Car Magazine, and it starts and ends at hotels within the collection.
The tour runs from Friday 2nd October to Thursday 8th October 2026, covering around 470 to 480 miles from Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay all the way to Hotel Polurrian in Mullion, Cornwall. It follows significant stretches of two famous Roman roads, Ermine Street and the Fosse Way, and the first two nights trace exactly the same ground as this itinerary. Entrants check in at Hotel Victoria on the Friday, then drive south past the Humber Bridge to check in at The White Hart Hotel in Lincoln on the Saturday, with a photo stop planned in Castle Hill Square between the cathedral and the castle. From there the route continues on to Moreton in Marsh, Martock and finally Mullion.
Each stop comes with a set dinner and live music, and entrants can request dinner, bed and breakfast rates throughout. There’s no entry fee, and participants are encouraged to raise money for a charity of their choice. The tour is open to vehicles built before 1976, with some flexibility for sports cars and other notable vehicles at least 25 years old.
