Staycations at Hotel Victoria

Book Your Summer Staycation

Hotel Victoria is the ideal base for a staycation break on the North Yorkshire Coast, overlooking the fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Whitby, the North York Moors and the coastline at Staithes are all easy to reach, or you can simply stay put and make the most of everything on site. Take a look at our Angebote & Pausen and find something that suits.

There’s a lot to be said for staying in this country. No airports, no packing anxiety, no jet lag. Just a drive up through Yorkshire and the moment you catch your first glimpse of the sea.

We opened as a hotel in 1897. The building has been refurbished recently, but it still has the character of its Victorian past: original features, a rich maritime history and that sense that the place has seen a few things. We hold a 4-star AA rating and a 1 AA Rosette for culinary excellence, which tells you something about where we’ve set the bar.

There’s a bit of film history too. In 2017 the hotel featured in Phantom Thread, the Oscar-winning film starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Several members of staff appeared as extras.

Thirty bedrooms, four places to eat and drink, and views across Robin Hood’s Bay that are hard to leave behind.

A staycation doesn’t mean settling. It means choosing somewhere worth going to.

The Village on the Doorstep

Robin Hoods Bucht is the kind of place that genuinely surprises people. You know it’ll be pretty. You don’t quite expect it to be this good.

The streets are narrow and cobbled, the alleyways wind between brick and stone houses, and the whole place tumbles down to a rocky shoreline in a way that feels almost theatrical. It’s a proper working village too, with a wide range of artisan shops and eateries and people who actually live there year-round. Wander down to the bay at low tide and there’s plenty to explore on the rocks.

For walkers and cyclists the location is hard to beat. Robin Hood’s Bay sits at the eastern end of the Coast to Coast Walk, Alfred Wainwright’s famous route from St Bees in Cumbria. The Cleveland Way is also on the doorstep. And over 150 miles of cycle network are nearby, including the Cinder Track: the former Scarborough to Whitby railway line, which makes for a particularly good ride.

Not a walker? We can take you down to the village in our EV Monaco electric vehicle. It’s a chauffeured ride, and it gives you a good look at the place on the way down.

Where to Stay

The rooms are split across five categories, and the right one really depends on what you’re here for.

If views matter most, go for a Superior Sea View room. Two of them have balconies. Wake up early enough and you’ll catch the sunrise over the bay from your own private outdoor space. There’s also a four-poster room in this category if the occasion calls for it.

The full range looks like this:

Cosy Rooms: comfortable and stylish, perfect for two

Classic Rooms: spacious and elegantly styled, with a family room option available

Deluxe Moorland Rooms: original features and antique furnishings, with a family room option available

Deluxe Sea View Rooms

Superior Sea View Rooms: the best views in the house, with balcony rooms and a four-poster option

Every room comes with, premium coffees & teas, luxury toiletries and bathrobes in our Superior rooms. If you’re celebrating something, tell us when you book and we’ll make sure the room is ready for it.

And yes, the dog can come. Dog-friendly rooms are available in The Captain’s Quarters, which also has dog-friendly dining in The Loxley pub.

Ein Holzschild markiert Wanderwege, darunter der Cleveland Way und Great Broughton, vor einer ländlichen Kulisse aus sanften Hügeln und Feldern.
Scenic view of a coastal town with a marina, boats docked along the harbor, and historical buildings on a grassy hillside under a clear blue sky.
Eine schmale Straße mit charmanten Backstein- und Steinhäusern, deren Fenster und Türschwellen mit Pflanzen geschmückt sind, führt hinunter zu einem Blick auf das Meer und ferne Hügel unter einem bewölkten Himmel.

Getting Out and About

The location is genuinely well-placed for day trips. You’ve got a different destination for every day of the week.

– Whitby: the abbey ruins, sandy beaches and harbour

– Scarborough: North and South Bay, a castle and plenty to keep everyone occupied

– Staithes: a fishing village further up the coast, and well worth the detour

– The North York Moors National Park: walking, cycling and open moorland in every direction

Back at the hotel in the evening, The Loxley is our traditional Yorkshire pub and it’s dog-friendly. Hearty food, award-winning real ales, and a fire when the weather calls for it.

Eating and Drinking

Food is taken seriously here. Head Chef Ryan Osborne leads the kitchen at Osborne’s Restaurant, cooking seasonal menus built around locally sourced produce. The 1 AA Rosette reflects that.

But Osborne’s is just one of four places to eat and drink on site:

– Osborne’s Restaurant: Brunch, seasonal lunch and dinner menus, Afternoon Tea and Sunday Lunch

– The Garden Bar and Terrace: Mediterranean-inspired small plates and cocktails outside, with sea views

– Osborne’s Lounge Bar: coffee and light bites in the daytime, cocktails in the evening

– The Loxley Pub: food all day, Yorkshire real ales, local gins and fine wines

The Afternoon Tea deserves a mention on its own. Finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, a selection of cakes and a good pot of tea, all with the sea in front of you. Add a glass of fizz and it becomes something rather special.

Staycation Breaks and Special Occasions

Our staycation packages are updated throughout the year, with seasonal breaks designed around the coast, the moors and everything in between. Whether you’re after a mid-week escape, a last-minute weekend or something planned well ahead, there’s usually something worth looking at.

Overnight guests get complimentary on-site car parking, subject to availability. It’s a small thing, but it makes the arrival feel easier.

We’re also well set up for celebrations. The Loxley Room takes private bookings for groups, whether it’s a milestone birthday, an anniversary dinner or a baby shower. Tell us what you’re planning and we’ll shape it around you.

If a Yorkshire staycation sounds right, we’d love to have you. Come for the views, stay for the food, leave when you absolutely have to. Get in touch with us here and we’ll help you find the right dates and the right room
